Bleyhl Community Library

Bleyhl Community Library provides an intellectual environment with access to books, periodicals and electronic media which satisfy the information and entertainment needs of our community while honoring traditions of free speech and inquiry.
Hard Times Resource Guide

Since its launch, the Washington State Library’s Hard Times Resource Guide has been used to help thousands of Washington residents find jobs, get information about housing and health issues, and much more. One of the most-used sections of the Guide, resources for Employment and Job-Seeking, focuses heavily on Washington resources, with a strong emphasis on finding employment within Washington State. A new section on Resume Help has been included, as well as additional information on finding different types of employment, such as hourly positions, freelance work, and temp jobs.

Grandview Heritage is officially live!

--a note from Evan Robb, Project Manager, Washington Rural Heritage,

Washington State Library, Office of the Secretary of State

"A big thanks to our contributor-participants at Bleyhl Community Library and the R.E. Powell Museum, especially Ruth Dirk (at Bleyhl), who did a wonderful job of cataloging the collection, and has contributed immensely to its development and design. Also to Jean Marie Coursey who was invaluable in tracking down descriptions for R.E. Powell Museum objects.

Joint City/YVCC Library

In 2007, the Mayor and City Council and Yakima Valley Community College agreed to pursue the concept of a new joint library facility on YVCC's Grandview campus. The college engaged an architect to develop a preliminary design for a $4 million facility. Early plans describe a 12,000 square-foot library that would meet the needs of both the community and college students. It will improve the ability for YVCC to deliver high-quality academic, vocational and adult basic education and will provide informational resources to residents of the Lower Yakima Valley.

YVCC submitted a $2 million matching grant application to the State, and has been notified that this project has been ranked #1 for potential funds from the state legislature in May 2009. In September of 2008 the federal government approved a $600,000 grant for the project, leaving a balance of $1.4 million yet to be raised so the project can become a reality. Construction will begin in late fall of 2010 and be completed by fall 2011.

UPDATE

Funding has been secured, and the City and YVCC are entering into an agreement providing for the operation of the library. The Building Committee is in ongoing discussions with Brockway • Opfer • Raab Architecture, P.L.L.C.  to design a building that will serve the needs of our patrons and YVCC students and faculty. The building will be owned by the State, which will be responsible for the maintenance of the facility. Operating costs will be shared between the City and YVCC.

"Libraries are learning centered environments and all of us are lifelong learners whether we are college students or public library patrons."-- Geraldine de Rooy, Library Director, Bleyhl Community Library, City of Grandview.

"Yakima Valley Community College is extremely pleased to continue our longstanding history of collaboration with the City of Grandview with the addition of the new Grandview Library.  Located on the YVCC Grandview campus, the library will be an efficient, state-of-the-art facility that will serve the college, as well as, replace the city library.  Completion is anticipated for fall 2011."-- Dr. Linda Kaminski, President, Yakima Valley Community College.
